I mean, it's generic and kind of popular, but I wouldn't be disappointed because he's a creative writing teacher. One or both of the names could be family names. I've always like Mackenzie for a boy, but with its popularity, my interest in it has waned.
The only time I'd really be disappointed in someone's name choice would be if it's deliberately odd, like Audio Science or Apple. It's fine if that's what you want to call your child (even if it isn't my style), but at least give them a name that wouldn't stand out like a sore thumb in a professional environment!
