[Opinions] Gail on a boy?
So we're reading The Fountainhead in English, and I don't really care for it that much... but I really love the character Gail Wynand. Would Gail work as a middle name on a boy today? Thoughts please!

Had a male college prof whose fn was Gail. *shrug* I found it acceptable b/c he was an older man, but on a modern boy? It would raise my eyebrows, that's for sure. As a mn, though...I could handle that. :o)

never in a million yearsI don't see how any of you could possibly consider Gale for a boy. Your sons will NOT thank you for such an inconsiderate choice. I'm really surprised at you too Andrew. Doesn't seem like an opinion a guy would have at all. Hmmm. More people criticized me for Amos sounding like anus? No. You guys are oblivious!

I have a fondness for Gale, and have seen it on a couple of actors (one of whom pulls it off quite well ;b), but I wouldn't advise Gail on a male (hehe) at all, no. Gale or Galen, perhaps, but definitely not Gail.Wait...as a mn? Perhaps.

I believe Gale is legit on a boy, as a word name. Gail isn't really, but is a reasonable alternative spelling. It's OK as a middle name if the literary connection is important to you. However, with the current flurry of little Abigails, it's pretty bad timing to name a boy Gail, or even Gale. But again, middle name, literary connection.

I like it as a nickname for Abigail. It's less cutesy than say Abby. For a guy in this spelling it'd be too feminine in my opinion.HOWEVER, I really like Gale for a guy. Less feminine association. Although I know it changes the character spelling, it keeps the overall meaning (of the name, not who you're naming it after).

As a MN? Sure, why not?I think Gale would probably work better, but I think Gail's fairly harmless and ambiguous enough to not appear too feminine on a boy.

I personally wouldn't do it. I think it's too strictly feminine in my mind. I know two Gails, both female, so it'd been fixed. Coming from the girl who likes Vivian, Ashley, and Sasha on boys....*rolls eyes* But if you want to, go for Gale, please; it's a more masculine looking spelling.

For a middle name and middle name only, I think it's okay, but I bet your boy wouldn't thank you for it. =)

As a mn, Gail would be fine on a boy. The spelling just strikes me as too feminine to use as a fn, though. If you went with Gale, I'd be all for it either way.
