[Opinions] Elmire
During a meeting today I saw the name Elmire (g). I've never heard or seen it before but I kind of like it. I'm not sure of the pronunciation (she wasn't at the meeting and I only saw it in print) but I guess it's an uh-sound at the end. What do you think? Have you heard it before or is it new to you too?

Elmire is the French form of Elmira. I'm not sure why there would be a "uh" sound in the end, but in French it is el-meer.

Maybe there shouldn't be a uh-sound at the end after all. Since it has a French origin it makes sense (Elmire with an uh-sound at the end would be the Swedish pronunciation).

I guess it would be a French or German form of Elmira. I like I like Almira better.

Elmire was a character in Moliere's 17th century French play Tartuffe. When we performed it, we said el-MEER. I can't promise that's entirely accurate.

It reminds me of Elmira. Like from Tiny Toons. I'd guess it's pronounced el-MEER-a, but I guess it could be el-MIE-ra and just be a variant of Elmira.
