[Opinions] Dorcas
I watched Seven Brides for Seven Brothers today. One of the characters was named Dorcas. I also have an ancestor by that name. This got me to thinking. Dorcas would definitely be made fun of in the U.S., but what about Dorcas with the nn Dora? Would this work? Should Dorcas be saved for a middle name only, or should it be tossed out completely?P.S. I know I've had quite a random posting of names lately, but I am completely overhauling my PNL and trying for new and more meaningful combos.ETA: Maybe the nn Cassie?

I'd go with Tabitha.Less need to make fun of . . .
Dorcas would be better off as a MN.

When I was a kid watching that movie over and over again, I never liked the name. Now I don't mind it at all! That said, I'd still prefer it for a mn, as like you said, the child would be teased terribly.

I love that movie! The name is interesting, but maybe the "dork" association would be a problem in an English-speaking country?

It's my grandmother's nameShe hates it, honestly. She really dislikes it when people announce her name in public. I guess the Dork part is too much for her lol.

I really think Dorcas is a dreadful name. It sounds harsh and deeply unattractive. If you like Dora, use that, but leave Dorcas to the archives!

I think it's rather prettyfor some reason, almost to the point of being PNL-worthy. I also think that: Dorcas would be teased for her name more than Any Other Kid She Would Ever Meet. Even if she went by Dora. Even more than my [son] Rudolph "Rudy." The teasing would also be very severe when people found out it was her middle name - I can imagine Dorcas being the type of middle name a kid would try to keep secret, and then someone finding it out and shouting it and a bunch of kids circling around and taunting and many tears and trauma and "WHY DID YOU NAME ME THIS. WHY"Whether or not name-teasing is something that's actually psychologically harmful is another question.
