I suppose it could be considered a French feminine form of Brian if you follow the example of Adrian = Adrienne or Julian = Julienne. Brienne is ok and has a nice sound. Still, I prefer Brianna or Briana (or anything else, actually).

It's not horrible, there's definitely worse names out there I think. It seems a bit made up to me though. I prefer Brynn/Brynne.

I agre, it's got potential. Brienne's a character in my favorite book series. An incredibly honorable but homely woman "knight". I've seen (and heard of) kids being named after characters in this series, most of the names are either real or twists on real (Eddard/ Ned instead of Edward/ Ned, for example).Brienne's not my favorite sound in the universe by any means but I can think of worse things to name a girl.

Not my personal style, but I can see it becoming HUGE in the next few years!

There's a place in France called Brienne. I'd imagine the parents were just playing around with Brianna, though. It's OK, pretty enough and a little more interesting than Brianne.Edit: There was a place in France called Brienne. I heard it in a history lecture; dunno what the place is called now.

It just looks like a different spelling for the name Brianne, which I dislike anyway. I dont like the Bri- sounds.
