Help[Opinions] Huckleberry?
I'm currently reading Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain and I'm really liking the name, though I would never use it for a real child because it's so out there. Though I do like the sound of Huck. lol But I was thinking it might make a nice middle name for a boy. I mean usually no one knows what a person's middle name is anyway, so it can be a little out there and unique. My fave boy's name is Holden but giving him the middle name Huckleberry is just cruel cause Holden is a unique name in its self. But my second favorite name is Gavin. And I was thinking that since that name is becoming more and more popular, perhaps an unusual middle name would even it out. So thoughts on:
Gavin Huckleberry
I could call him Huck for a nn too. Opinions on Huckleberry its self as a name? I remember on the show Busy Town by Richard Scarry there was a cat named Huckle. I guess that could work as a name in its self too but it's a little strange. But anyway...thoughts?

Just wanted to say thanks to who ever reported or deleted xliMex 's post...or whatever their name was. Cause I did see it and was rediculously offended that someone would threaten to kidnap, rape, and kill me for suggesting a name. It's disgusting and rediculous and I hope they get kicked off this site for doing it. Even if it was a joke, it's rude and not neccesary. I didn't know how to report it myself or I would have but thank you to whoever did.

I love Huckleberry [m]
I would use it as a FN Huckleberry Finn to be exact but it's too much. I do love it as a MN, I don't see it any different then Clementine.
I am using it as a MN as well. Holden Huckleberry sounds nice.

Why not, it's your right and privilege to name this child, so if you like it, great. However, I have to agree with another poster that Gavin Huckleberry does not flow that well in terms of trendiness/uniqueness.
Also... you stated you like Holden William. If I remember correctly, was there an actor a long time ago by the name of William Holden?
Huckleberry, to me, is more of a memorable character than a weird name... so I think it works. Then again, I am in love with the name Atticus and would use it in a heartbeat if my husband allowed it. I don't think there is anything in this world that can stir up great emotion than a really good character novel... and a classic one at that. If it really means that much to you, go for it!

oh i never knew that. That's cool though. But I didn't pick it because of William Holden. I do like the name Holden because of Catcher In The Rye, but William is for my grandfather and I think it flows nicely together.
And I know Gavin is trendy but that's not why I like it. Gavin is for Gavin DeGraw who is pretty much the biggest musical influence in my life and he's the one who kind of inspired me to write my own music. So I'd like to honor him in that way. Plus I do like the name its self. And Huckleberry, as you know, is for Huck Finn.

I really like Huckleberry, but I've never gotten to the point where I love it, and I'm not sure if I'd have the guts to use it. It does sound nice, though, and it has a wonderful literary association that will remain timeless. I wouldn't go with Holden Huckleberry, but that has nothing to do with the fact that Holden is unique. It's because it's waaaaaay to book-y (Holden Caulfield and Huckleberry Finn). I really dislike the name Gavin; it's very trendy. It does sound okay with Huckleberry, but I think I'd pair Huckleberry with a more common name like William or Rowan.

I recently did a poll on this site asking whether the respondents hated telling people their middle name. One of the options was, "Yes, my middle name is stupid and it's embarrassing." No one chose that option. I'm afraid that if you give your future son the middle name of Huckleberry, he would be the only one to choose that option on my poll.
