Archer's GoonI associate it with the book Archer's Goon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archer%27s_goon), since that's the only place I've heard it used before. I like it, but I think it would take me a while to get used to it on a real person. For the interest of name-nerds, in the book, Torquil is part of a sibset of seven: Archer (m), Shine (f), Dillian (f), Hathaway (m), Torquil (m), Erskine (m), and Venturus (m). (A rather bizarre sibset, but it is a kids' fantasy novel. ;-p)

I find it vaguely effeminate, the -quil ending, though nice, seems very pretty, too pretty for a man imo.

It's interesting because I knew someone with Torkel as a surname and that is what it reminded me of right away not realizing they were in fact related. I don't like the sound of the name, but Torquil is somewhat aesthetically pleasing.

It's definitely different.... I like it.

It's fun to say, and I think it would be an awesome name to use on a literary character or even as a middle name for a person, but I don't really like it as a first name. I think it's the sound that's not appealing to me (same reason I don't like the similar Tarquin). But it gets points for being different and not at all common where I live (as I've never heard it before).

It's interesting.I like it and I don't like it, not sure why. It's a little fancy for my tastes but it has an aura about it that's pretty cool. Plus the meaning - Thor's Cauldron - is kinda of cool.Hmm. I'll have to think on this one, but it could definitely grow on me.
