I'd say mah-riss-ah. I live in England, and I know one Marisa but no Marissas.

Marissa - mah-rissa
Marisa - mah-ree-saPortugalI don't know any Marissas, but I do know some Marisas (all of them pronounce their name mah-ree-za). It was fairly common about 10-15 years ago, and is still used (usually by young people with lower income and education level - name trends, please don't sue me for this); also common in the Gipsy community. Generally it's considered as a 90's trendy name.

You're from Portugal! I'm Portuguese and I would absolutely love to visit Portugal and The Azores one day. If you don't mind me asking where about are you from?

I was born in Lisbon, but I live in this really small town (about 4,000 people) in the middle of nowhere =P. It's deep south, in the deserted region of Baixo Alentejo.
Were you born here, or are your parents Portuguese? Or anything else lol! Sorry, this is curiosity taking over me... :-)

Marissa as Mah-rissa, similar to Melissa, same "issa"-sound.
Marisa as Mah-ree-sa, long ee-sound as in Marina and Marita.I live in Sweden and I've never met a Marissa or Marisa but I've met Melissa and Marita."You sought a flower and found a fruit. You sought a spring and found a sea. You sought a woman and found a soul. You are disappointed."

I pronounce it Mah-rissa, and prefer the spelling Marisa. I'm from the U.S. and no I don't know any Marissa's.

I have known about four people named Marisa (one was spelled her name Merissa). They are either late teens or adults now. I knew another who is middle aged. I don't know if I have met a Marissa (with this spelling). All of them pronounced their names as Mah-rissa. Two were of hispanic decent but they still said Mah-rissa even though most people of hispanic decent say Mah-ree-sa. I tend to say Mah-rissa for either. I prefer this pronunciation over Mah-ree-sa but both are nice.

With Marisa it'll be Mah-ree-sa, due to the single 's'.
With Marissa it'll be Mah-rissa, due to the double 's'.I'm Danish, and no I don't know any Marisa's or Marissa's, apart from the ones who is celebrities or characters in movies/TV series.
