i think Cate is very contrived. i can't really see how you got that from Octavia.

Avia might work. It is a bit too sweet and pretty for me though, as is Ava. I like Octavia because it is a little bit frumpy and I'd prefer a slightly frumpy nickname.

Cate is because of Octavia. Just switching around the a and the t sounds gives you Cate!
