It reminds me of a Midwestern woman with too much make-up, an accent, overly-friendly and just obnoxious. It's one of the very few names that just makes me want to scream.

Lol, I can see that
I actually think "purl" is OK, but Scots insist in dividing it into two syllables and pronouncing it the same as "peril", which rather ruins the appeal.
I can see it making a comeback in some places, as Ruby has.
