[Opinions] Possible nickname
I know that a lot of you feel that Alexandria (my favourite name) is a bit too frilly and as a day-to-day name I agree but I can never settle on a good nickname. I started thinking that maybe I could use Alexandra as a nickname. WDYT? It's a lot simpler, cleaner but I still get to use the name I've loved since childhood. The full name would be Alexandria Claire "Alexandra".

I don't see a thing wrong with Alexandria...it's beautiful. To me, if you use Alexandra as a nickname you might as well have Alexandra as the official name.

Though I love Alexandra, it's not a nn. Too long, your not saving anyone's breath.
Why not just Alexandra Claire? I personally love it.

To me, Alexandra is not a nickname. It's just a variant, and only one letter shorter, so it doesn't really qualify as a nickname.(I also prefer Alexandra to Alexandria, but I'm biased *g*)I'm sure you've seen all these before, but here's nicknames off the top of my head for Alexandria. Maybe one will catch your fancy:Alex
Alexa
Lexa
Lexie
Ali
Andy
Xandra
Sandry
Sandy
Ria (I like this a lot as a nickname)
Andry

Using Alexandra does take out a syllable, but it is still very long itself. Also using another full name as a NN for a similar full name seems odd to me. I would be confused if I met a girl called Alexandra and she later told me that her name was actually Alexandria. Seems to me that if you're going to say the 4 syllables of Alexandra, you might as well throw in the 5th that makes it Alexandria. How about:
Alex
Alexa (a little like using Alexandra as a NN, but since it's significantly shorter it doesn't seem as odd)
Lex/Lexie/Lexa
Ali
Zan (Xan?)
Xandria
Andie
Andria
Andrie
Xandie
Xandrie

Hmm, I'm not sure it would work to be honest. I think the reason for choosing a nickname is that the given name is too long or too formal sounding for everyday use. However Alexandra is still a long name in itself. Also it's so similar to Alexandria that I think it would create confusion for other people about which was the "correct" name. I personally think if you love the name Alexandria (and have done for a long time) then use that but go for something more obviously nicknamey and less formal as a nickname (if you need to) e.g. Lex, Lexie, Alex, Alexa (I like this as a full name but it can work as a nickname), Ria, Sandie etc.
