Joel is quite nice. I have never met one I didn't like so I have great associations with it that help. The only draw back is that it is quite common where I live and I prefer Joseph and Josiah...couldn't have a Josiah and Joel or a Joseph and Joel.
Joel Ross is a little abrupt but if it has family significance, I think that should take precedence over flow.
