[Facts] Dutch Name
The name of one of my great-great (etc) grandmothers is Catalyn, sometimes written as Catalyntie. She was a Dutch orphan living in Amsterdam, Holland, and was born about 1640. Can you tell me anything about the name- its meaning or pronounciation? Thank you!

As ADT said, it's a form of Katherine, pronounced as Ca-ta-line or Ca-ta-line-tje (ta instead of tha, hard t-sound, and instead of -tie, it's more likely to have been -tje, with we use in our language to point out it's a smaller form (for example: tree - littel tree would be boom - boompJE), and about the -lyn, that would've been -lijn in Dutch, a popular ending (pronounced like 'line'). I hope that answered your questions! Indy

Catalyntje is the diminutive form, as if it were Cathleenkins!Ka-ta-LANE (lane as in narrow road) or Ka-ta-LANE-ke are close to the modern Dutch pronunciation, which would be what she used too.
