It reminds me of collegeand the organization. I had some friends that belonged, and to me, Hillel is the place on Spring St. It doesn't seem like a name at all to me, because my first introduction to it was the place. However, if that association doesn't bother you (I'm not sure how prevalent it would be), it's not a bad name. I do like the sound of it.

lolly, bluey, iheartskiing - you need to pick one posting name. here's a copy of our site rules for you:http://www.behindthename.com/bb/help.php?board=baby

I tried signing in but apparently I kept getting my password wrong, or I'd used a different email. :( And sorry about the nicknames, I decided I liked lolly better after I'd been using the other one. Really, really sorry for the confusion!

Not a problem. We just like to get a head's up when you change your name so we know who you are.

I don't like it at all.

YESSSS!!!Finally! Finally there is someone else who likes Hillel! That name has been my *thing* on this board for a while now. I love the combo Hillel Akiva.Hahaha, you have no idea how much I'm smiling to know someone else actually likes this name as well!

Nice to hear someone so excited about it! It appears Hillel has a small cult following. ;)

It's a bit cumbersome, I can't picture it on a real person.

Well, I always see it as the college organization (or a Hillel sandwich), so it's really hard to put it on a person. I do love Hallela for a girl.

A Hillel sandwich?! Oh... I suppose since my first association with it has always been Hillel Slovak, it's been easy to imagine on a person. Good to know about the sandwich, though. That changes things.

well, it's not technically a *sandwich* sandwich, but at Passover, you take two small pieces of matzah and put bitter herbs (usually horseradish) between them, and eat it in remembrance of Hillel the Elder. It's a horrible taste.

Oh, I was imagining poor Hillel walking into a Subway and seeing an advertisement for a Hillel Sandwich and hiding his head in shame.

ahhhh hahahahaha. No. Hillel sandwich is not like a Reuben or another name that got stuck on food. didn't mean to give you that impression! It's just that I hear Hillel and Passover is all I can think about. This might have less applicability to other people, though, since I'm a fairly strict Jew (my friends have labelled me "Conservadox," lol).

Yeah, I didn't know that at all. My family is not Jewish, I just like Jewish names. So the sandwich thing doesn't bug me or change the fact that Hillel is my #1 boy name. :)

Whatever floats your boat!
