I think it's lovely and underused
It's not a name that I'd use, but if I met a little girl named Ginger I think I'd seriously go shake her parents hands. It's adorable! Plus, ginger just tastes so goo! =P

Love it.
I love it. It's spunky, feisty, and different.
For a young child, I like the pet name 'Gingersnap'. :)

Gingersnap is a darling nn. I'm going to steal that one.
Makes me think of the novel Stone Cold where Ginger is a guy.

Love it
I once admitted that I loved the name Ginger to a pregnant friend of mine. Once.
No one else I know even likes the name. But I love soft "g" sounds and you get two for the price of one with Ginger. Add to that the zippy quality of a feminine name ending in an "-er" and I'm sold.
Ginny is a darling nn and is a natural fit with Ginger.

not too good
It's very much a dog's name for me. And Ginger itself doesn't stand as a full name very well. Neithe rdoes Ginny, so to have Ginny be a nn for Ginger, or vice versa, just doesn't seem good.

Agree
I always think of Ginger as either a nickname for a person with red hair, or a person named Virginia. So, Ginger itself is a nickname to me.

I have to agree
I had a dog named Ginger....
Dated & too cutesy
I know one ~50 year old woman named Ginger. The name doesn't sound trampy to me, but very outdated and cutesy. I don't care for the nn Ginny, it's like calling someone rum-y (drunk).

I actually really like Ginger - I think it's adorable. I just don't know how well it'd work in 2008.
I have a friend named Ginger. It's a really pretty name.
When a friend of mine was pregnant two years ago, she mentioned that her husband liked Ginger for a girl. She hated it. She said that she thought it sounded tacky and stripperish. I have to say that I agree with her. They had a boy anyway.
Did Ginger not start out as a nickname for Virginia? I think it did. I really dislike Virginia, Ginger, and Ginny. Ginny is the worst. Yuk.
