[Opinions] Re: Celebrity-Inspired Names in the Top 1000
in reply to a message by molly
When a celebrity uses a name, I'm inclined to remove it from my list. I'll be very upset if a popular celebrity uses any of my first names. I really dislike Hollywood/celebrities and would hate for people to think that I named my child because of a celebrity. I suppose if it's an obscure celebrity, I wouldn't mind much.
I've liked Atticus for years, since I was a young child watching the Gregory Peck To Kill a Mockingbird film, and I loved Scout, and how she called her father Atticus. "Hey, Mr. Cunningham. I said, hey, Mr. Cunningham." "Hey Aaaatticus." Of course, later read the book. I prefer it as a middle name, though DH likes it as a fn. I didn't know that celebrities were using Atticus. Crummy celebrities. Though it doesn't bother me to have it in the mn slot.
I also love Giada. I love that it's the Italian form of Jade because I love the name Jade but Giada is softer sounding and reflects my Italian heritage. Now, I probably won't use it since beastly Giada de Laurentis has become so popular AND I'm a foodie. People will make the connection. Most irritating because it is a lovely name.
I like Ava, though I first noticed it because of Reese Witherspoon's daughter. Of course, I couldn't use it, since everyone else probably noticed it too, which the charts are now showing.
I don't connect Jude with Jude Law. I like it because of the Biblical reference and since reading the Hardy novel Jude the Obscure. I also like that it's a form of Judah.
I like Lourdes, which I first noticed because of Madonna's daughter. I wouldn't use it as a first name, but I think it's a lovely mn, so I've kept it on my list even though a celebrity used it.
I don't think of Zion as a celebrity name. I think immediately of the city/Biblical references and had no idea that a celebrity had recently used the name. Actually, still have no idea who Lauryn Hill is, and I'm not wasting my time to look her up... I don't care.
