[Opinions] Re: Scottish BAs
in reply to a message by Lethe
Girls:Bethan Catherine - I love both names, but they are wayyy too similar sounding to be used in the same combo, imo.
Carly Gillian - Gillian is nice, but Carly is far too cutesy.
Christina Mary - Boring, but nice.
Eilidh Christina - I like Eilidh, but it seems mismatched with Christina (which is okay, but nms).
Elodie Anna - Too many vowels as a combo, but both names are lovely individually.
Freya Elspeth Mary - Gorgeous! Would be near perfection if Freya was spelled Freja.
Heather Letitia - Not a fan of either. Heather is horribly dated where I live (US) and Letitia sounds tacky to me.
Holly Maisie - Terribly cutesy and I dislike the double "ee" sound endings. I like Holly, but prefer Maisie as a nn.
Imogen Lindsay - Imogen is great, but Lindsay is very boring and dated where I live. It also sounds completely masculine to me. I love Honor, but prefer it spelled Honour.
India Grace - Not a fan of either name. I do like some place names, but India just sounds tacky to me. Grace is sooo overused. Give it a rest and maybe I'll like it in a few years.
Iola Amber - I love Iole, but Iola looks strage and a bit cheap to me. Amber is tickety-tack, imo.
Isla Antonia - Stunning. I know that Isla is trendy in Scotland, but it would be considered refreshing where I live. Same with Antonia. I absolutely adore this combo despite the double endings.
Isla Mary Sophia - Gorgeous. No other words.
Jade Alice - Sounds like Jay Dallas which reminds me of cowboys...I'm not a fan of either name anyway.
Jenna Amalia - Awkward flow. Jenna is a GP of mine.
Juliet Haruna - Ooh, I love Juliet and Haruna is such an interesting mn choice! I love it.
Katie Helen Sheila - Katherine Helen would have been great. Katie is very dated/cutesy/nickname and Sheila is just...bad, imo.
Katrina Abigail - Would prefer Catriona to Katrina. Abigail is way too common for me and it doesn't strike me as particularly pretty or attractive.
Kelsey Jade - Kelsey is a surname to me. Jade is a GP of mine, but I'd never use it.
Kirsty Charlotte - Kirsty is uber cutesy. Nmsaa. Charlotte is nice, but nms.
Kyra Andi Grace - I'm not sure how to pronounce Kyra. I know one who pronounces it like Kira (which I love), but I also know it's commonly pronounced KY(rhymes with sky)-ra. I don't care for Andi or Grace.
Lara Lily - I like both names separately, but as a combo they're too cutesy.
Marni - Nms.
Mayabelle - Gag. Sounds like something a redneck would name their dog.
Neve Anna - Too many Ns, but I like do like both names.
Niamh Elizabeth - Very pretty.
Niamh Erin Mary - I don't really care for Erin or Mary, but the combo sounds really nice.
Orla Jane - Ugh. Sounds very hickish to me.
Rebecca Amelie - The combo sounds nice, but I don't care for either name on its own.
Sasha Catherine - Alexandra Catherine nn Sasha would be absolutely fantastic, but Sasha Catherine is very nice as well. I love Oliver and Rory too. :)
Sophie Summer - Sophie is gooorgeous, but Sophie Summer sounds like a cartoon character.
Tabitha Claire Thea - Too many th's. Claire Thea would be beautiful, but Tabitha reminds me of cats.
Tori Alex - *cringes* Poor little girls has two boyish nns.Boys:Alasdair John David - Amazing. I'm a huge fan of Alasdair and John David is always a dependable 2mn-combo.
Callan - Sounds like callus.
Cameron James Curtis - Mediocre.
Cayden - Just what you said--horrendous.
Charlie Duncan - Nms. Charlie is a nn and Duncak mankes me think of Dunkin' Donuts (which I'm pretty sure is only an American thing so that connection probably wouldn't exist in Scotland).
Cristian - Much prefer Christian. I used to hate it, but I'm warming up to it now.
Ethan James - Eh, nothing remotely special about it...love sister Estelle's name though.
Gregor Murray - Both are surnames to me.
Jack Ronald - Awkward flow. Would love big sis's name if it was spelled Gemma though.
Jacob Francis - Jacob is so boring and I abhor Francis.
Joel Nicholas - I'm not a fan of Joel, but Nicholas is fabulous. I'll love it no matter how popular it is/was/stays.
Karsten - Eh, it's nice that it honours, but I personally would use honouring surnames in the mn slot.
Logan Connor - I used to love Logan too but now it's just TOO trendy. Connor is sweet, but nms.
Reuben Alexander - I wouldn't personally use Reuben, but this combo is fantastic!
Ria - Bleugh. Even worse than Ryan.
Scott Christopher - I don't like Scott, but I do like Christopher.
Spencer William George - Sister Florrie is adorable (I love it as a nn for Flora), but I'm not a fan of little Spencer's name at all.
Theo James - Would prefer Theodore James nn Theo, but it's still a nice combo. Not too exciting though.
Wilfred James - Don't care for either.
William Humphrey Peter - Eh...Peter's nice. I like Freja a lot, but Freya seems weak to me.
Twins:Abby Krysta + Lachlan Derek Jeffrey - I love Derek, but the others are nms.
Alexander (Sandy) Malcolm + Mackenzie Myrtle - Love big sis Una. Love Alexander too, but everything else is pretty bad, imo.
David James Henry + Elizabeth Alexandra - Very classy sibset. Love Carolina too.
Freya Hope + Jay Stewart - Love Freja (but not Freya). The rest are nms.
Mary Margaret + Dylan Glen - Mary Margaret screams NUN! to me. I don't care for Dylan Glen either. I'm guessing MM is named after mother Maggie (which I love), so maybe they'll use that as a nn? I hope?
Megan Kerrie + Alyx Beth - I ditto your urgh.
Rory Collin + Cameron Roy - I looove Rory for a boy, but the rest are either too trendy r similar to Rory (Roy).
