[Opinions] Re: Rosie
in reply to a message by Avis
I have a close friend named Rosie. Her full name is Raisa, which is Yiddish for rose. I think it's a brilliant idea to give the nn Rosie to a name that means rose in another language, whatever language you pick. Her name is Raisa Rachel, if that helps. Sometimes I think alliterition is good, and it seems to work with the letter R.

How do you pronounce Raisa?

I pronounce it rye-EE-sa, which is similar.

Yep, it's rye-EE-suh.
I saw that, but it's the Greek pronunciation
And I was curious about the Yiddish pronunciation.

Yiddish pronounciation
My grandmother's Yiddish name was Raisa Baila, pronounced RAY-zah BAY-lah. It worked well, IMO. I would definitely consider it when I start having kids!
