[Opinions] WDYTO Astrophelia?(m)
I just submitted Astrophelia, because I really liked the name Astrophel, but it was for a boy, so I made a version for a girl. Also, which pronounciation do you prefer, a-Strow-Feal-Ya or a-Stra-Feal-Ya?

1. I do not think you should just submit names you make up. This is an etymology site, not a "What Dragon_Clarinet Thinks Should Be A Name" site. 2. I'd prefer Astrophela (as-trow-fell-uh), and further, I'd keep it Astrophel for a boy. 3. I'd automatically prn it az-trow-feel-ya. [Like Astro-Ophelia]

Ditto to all of this, especially No. 1.

Sounds like a word for when there's a bunch of stuff in the sky."Come look through the telescope, there's so much Astrophelia. That's Jupiter- that's the star Sirius...."
Astro (star) + paraphernaLIA

Ditto this. Esp #1.Though you (Dragon Clarinet) picked my brain, because I've been idly reflecting on the idea of a feminine form of Astrophel- Astrophela? Astrophilia, because -philia means friend? Astrophelle/Astrofelle? Astrophette? Astrophine? Not because I wanted to use one but just because the idea of there being one popped into my head. But yeah. Submitting names you make up is weird and unhelpful. I know that they may be inaccurate, but I do like to learn etymology from the submitted names, because otherwise, what's the point?

Astrophelia? Sounds like a sexual fetish revolving around stars.

I got an 'l' in there by mistake, so it was more like Alstrophelia. So I started saying to myself "Astro, astro... Maybe Jasper does the astro, astro..." and it all went downhill from there. The Astro song by White Stripes is SO annoying! Grrr! And now it's going to be stuck in my head for the next two weeks. Then I thought it said Astrophobia.I should not be on the internet at this hour... I should go to bed... if I can find my room... Is this my house?..."Maybe Lily does the astro, astro..." ARGH! *Jen grabs computer but is too tired the hurl it across the room*

I think it should be a ruleThat everyone who likes the name Astrophel has to read Astrophil and Stella before committing themselves to the name. Astrophil is such a drip. They're good sonnets, but neither Astrophil nor Stella is the kind of character I'd want to name a kid for. So I'm not the world's biggest fan of Astrophel, and Astrophelia feels likewise drippy but with a longer wig on. I'd say astro rather than astra at the beginning, but I think there are a lot more charming -elia and -phelia names out there.Array
