[Surname] Meaning of Jureša
Does anyone know the meaning of the slavic last name Jureša? I guess it somehow comes from the name Jure (George in english), but I can't understand the suffix -eša.

But I think the surname is hungarian. Isn't it?

The spelling hints at Southern Slav, Croat or Slovene perhaps. I think the suggestion that it's a version of George is as good as any, but the ending is unusual.

Mino, confirmation of a Southern Slav origin, and an Italian version (jurescia) here -
http://www.mundimitar.it/resetar05.it.htmand a linking of the name with Jure in this Croatian text -
"imena u hrvatski antroponimijski sustav. Imena Ðuro (Giuro) i Ðurko (Giurko) zabilježena su, uz imena Jure i Jureška (Jurescia) ..."
which can be found here -

Jureša is Slovak as well as you can see at http://infobel.com/en/world/Teldir.aspx?Ct=Europe&Co=Slovak%20Republic&Dn=Telef%F3nny%20Zoznam%20SR&url=http://www.zoznamst.sk/eng/index.html. It can't be Hungarian since doesn't exist in that language. It's simply a pet form of Jur- 'George' (Russian Yuri, Polish Jerzy, Czech Jiří, etc.).

Thanks for the information!
Do you think that -eša is just a variant of -iša? Like in the names Stano-Staniša, Drago-Dragiša, Slava-Slaviša, etc?

I would say so given that Juriša also exists (just Google it to see).
