[Opinions] Re: Sylvie
in reply to a message by Tuesday
My French name in high school was Sylvie, so as you can imagine, I'm quite biased in favour of it. I also love Sylvia and (though to a much lesser extent) Silvia.
Sylvie July is sweet. Some other thoughts:
Sylvie Betilia
Sylvie Crescentia
Sylvie Desdemona
Sylvie Demetra
Sylvie Fenella
Sylvie Jacquetta
Sylvie Laurel
Sylvie Mariam
Sylvie Verbena
Sylvie Marcella
Sylvie Sinclair (after all, Saint Claire was a lady ;)
Sylvie Mercuria
Sylvie Florence
Sylvie Briseis
Sylvie Wisteria
Sylvie Anastasia
Sylvie Heloise
Sylvie Windsong
Sylvie Pax
Sylvie works better with names that begin with consonants, since the vowel-starting names will all sound schwa-y and turn Sylvie Alice (for instance) into Sylvia Lis. Or Sylvie Isadora into Sylvia Zadora. Sylvie Ursula's the only one I can think of that doesn't do that when I say it. So I think U names would be safe, and names that start with the "yoo" sound, like Sylvie Euphronia and Sylvie Eudoxia.
I want to put Kana in there with Sylvie, but Kana and Sylvie don't flow no matter what way you put them together. D:

Thanks, these are fabulous. Sylvie Crescentia, Florence, and Heloise seem particularly youthful, in a good way. I'd subconsciously thought of S. Marcella myself but it's nice to see it written out by someone else as well. Same almost goes for Laurel but I was thinking Laura. Lastly, I love the sound of both Sylvie Sinclair and Sylvie Verbena, but could you tell me more about Verbena? It's lovely . :-)
Thanks again, a lot of these had me thinking!

Verbena is the name for several different plants (I like lemon verbena a lot), many of which can be used as herbs. :D http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Verbena
It's pronounced as ver-BEE-nuh, though I always accidentally say ver-BAY-nuh. ^^;;
