[Opinions] Ingrid and Astrid?
These have been really appealing to me strongly lately. I used to be in the "god these names are ugly" camp, but now I am in the "god these names are sexy" camp. The (consonant)r followed by the harsh -id ending seems so solid and healthy to me now where before it was irredeemably ugly.Where do you fall, BTNers? I want to know what you think.

Love Ingrid. Love Ingrid. I wouldn't use it, but I'm very fond of Norwegian names in general, since they're a part of my heritage and environment (I've met everyone from Solveig to Odin, man). And they're just cool sounding, and I love Norwegian names.Astrid is one of those where I do like it, but it doesn't have quite the same appeal as a lot of others. I think it's pretty enough, but there are enough names that I like more that it just doesn't have the same shine.Array

I love Astrid. However, I don't think it's particularly usable as a first name due to the pesky "ass" sound. Which is sad, because it's a really great name.I like Ingrid too. It's pretty darned ugly but for some reason I do like it. I don't think I'd use it, but I'd be pleased to see someone else use it.

I love Ingrid.Very, very much - mostly because of Ingrid Bergman. Astrid, despite the author, has never really appealed to me. Of all the 'rid' names my favorite remains Sigrid. Anyway you put it, though, the names are just strong and beautiful.

I love them. I think they are cool in an exotic way. They are ugly to most people, which means they will not become trendy.

Astrid is definitely sexy. I see a tall, dark girl with legs that go on forever and an outgoing smile. I too used to think it was ugly but for some reason I've formed a different opinion.Ingrid however I still think is ugly, heh. But not iredeemably ugly as you say. For me, Ingrid is one of those that can only work on the perfect person. In other words, she *has* to be sexy and outgoing for it to be fitting.

I love them bothand think they fall into the "sexy names" category. To me, these names really conjure up the image of a confident, strong woman.

LOVE Ingrid. Love it.
I like Astrid. I'm very fond of it, but it doesn't wow me the way Ingrid does.
I'd be pleased as punch to see either in use.

I love both. I loved Ingrid for a long time, mostly because of associations, then Astrid just kind of fell in line. :-)

I really like Astrid, but . . . I think any Ingrid or Astrid would have to be a pretty girl, or it would be a hard name to live with. What if she just turned out homely and plain and bookish but not in that sexy, bookish "Funny Face" way? It's a disaster waiting to happen.

Ingrid is so sexy. I love Ingrid.Astrid...it's a bit blah. I think because I know a few it doesn't have the same appeal.

I've been really liking Astrid lately, though partially just because I like the nn Astri (I knew a girl named Astri, and I always thought it was neat). But also there was a character in a book I read long ago named Astrid, and I liked her too, so I've always had a soft spot for it even when I didn't love it.Ingrid I think is kinda pretty. I like Astrid better, but Ingrid has something prettier about it than Astrid. I think it's because the beginning is less harsh.

I like Astrid a great deal more than Ingrid. It's also less used and I think it's a lovely choice.

Love Ingrid, just like Astrid. They make me think of the (French) Columbian politician Ingrid Betancourt and her sister Astrid. I just finished up reading that story. So sad.

Astrid is really pretty. Ingrid is ok, and kinda glamorous, but I associate it too a relative of mine I don't particularly appreciate.

I like Astrid, but I'm not too keen on Ingrid. I wouldn't mind seeing either on a child.

I love both Ingrid and Astrid. They don't seem ugly at all, just strong and precise. But I like a lot of "harsh" names: Gertrude, Mildred, Dagmar, etc.

Terrific combo! Love them both, particually Astrid.

Ingrid, hands downI don't care for Astrid. It sounds trendy to me.Ingrid is classic and lovely to me, but I'm probably influenced by Ingrid Bergman.

I adore Ingrid, more and more lately. Astrid is my least favorite of the -rid names (my other favorite is Sigrid, nn Siri of course :b). But I think the ASS- sound at the beginning is what throws me off. :-/
