here is a question, what is the etymology of this one?

Well, this page here:

proposes the Romanian plant name 'Calinul' as the origin of the name Calin. Googling for this plant revealed that this is probably the "European cranberrybush" (Viburnum opulus L.)But this page here:

tells something else that I was not able to translate. However, it gives a Latin name as origin that does not seem to exist (or contains at least a typo), which is not a sign for reliability and accuracy.Of course it is also not clear whether the first page is reliable...

I know calin means "caress" in France... lol probably not the right origin :)

I forgot to say that it is a male name (can be feminine in the form Calina)
... and you might be right Claire since Romanian is a Latin language or maybe because from the 17th century onwards the romanian intellectuals were educated in Paris mostly
