What problems, associations (good and bad), possible teasings do you see for the name Maia on a girl? How would you pronounce it (please include emphasis)? (I pronounce it MIE-yah)

I dont see any bad associatons or teasings with Maia. Maia is a cute name even though a little trendy at the moment. I prefer the spelling Maya.

I've only met one person with the spelling Maia, but I didn't like her, she wasn't incredibly nice. she also pronounced it MY-uh.

I love Maia (MY-ah). Maia is the Greek and Roman spelling, Maya is the Jewish and Sanskrit spelling and also the name of the Maya people. So I think you should choose spelling according to which association you want. (In Swedish it is spelt Maja and a form of Maria.)
