Help[Opinions] How do you pronounce Madeline/Madeleine/Madelyn ?
I was just wondering how you pronounce the name Madeline/Madeleine/Madelyn.
Madeleine is a French name and I pronounce it the French way which is kind of like muhd-LANN or muh-deh-LANN (kind of). I also like it as MAD-deh-lynn, though.
Madeline: I used to pronounce this MAD-deh-lynn as well but now I heard that some people say MAD-deh-line or mad-deh-LINE. How do you say it ?
Madelyn: Okay so this is just MAD-deh-lynn to me...
I never heard the name pronounced Mad-deh-LINE so I'm curious if you know any Madeline's that pronounce it MAD-deh-line or mad-deh-LINE ?

Madeleine is - Mad-uh-lehn(last syllable rhymes with hen and pen)
Madeline is only mad-uh-line to me. I know two Madelines who pronounce it this way and the character from the Madeline books and tv show was pronounced this way in the TV show. It irks me when people spell it like this and pronounce it mad-uh-lyn...this is probably due to the fact that I constantly get my name pronounced as care-oh-lyn even though I think it is fairly obvious it should be pronounced care-oh-LINE.

I would pronounce Madeline Mad-uh-leen, like Emmeline and so on, but I guess that's not common. Mad-uh-line also makes sense (more sense than Mad-uh-lyn, imo).

yeah sorry I speak French (bilingual) but I'm not good at explaining sounds and writing down pronunciations and stuff. but if you know french you pronounce it the same way as I do :P

I tend to pronounce Madeline, Madeleine, and Madelyn MAD-uh-lin. I used to only pronounce Madeline Mad-uh-line before I realized that most people pronounce it Mad-uh-lin though. Personally, I have only met one Madeline and she pronounced her name Mad-uh-lin.

I think Madeline and Madeleine are classic, but popular names. Madelyn is the trendy spelling. I wouldn't use this name but it is millions of times better than Madison

In English, I say them all like Madelyn, i.e. "MAD-uh-lin".
I speak French too; I'd write the pronunciation of Madeleine more like "Mad(uh)Lenn". The 'a' in the "Mad" syllable is pronounced as written; it's only the 'e' in the middle which glides away to a slight 'uh sound. And then "eine" makes "enn". It's hard to write things out how you say them though, every combination of letters seems to make a different sound in different accents etc.!
Anyway, if it was an English girl, I'd still say it Madelyn, like Madeleine McCann.

yeah I think we pronounce Madeleine the same :P i just have problems with writing down and explaining the pronunciation :P But I say the Mad in Madeleine with an ahhhh sound not and ehhh sound so hard to explain...not like the English word "mad" rather like the English word "mud" if that makes sense :P

I see... I think part of the problem is that you and I probably say "mad" and "mud" differently. I'm English, and the word "mad" for me is exactly the same sound in the French Madeleine. There's no 'ehhh' sound about it. But I've heard before from Americans that their short 'a' sound isn't the same as the French 'a' sound. Where are you from? :)

Oh I didn't know you were from England but now it makes sense. Yes I think we pronounce it exactly the same then :) I was born in Germany but I lived in Australia for a long time. I have an American accent, though haha I don't know why.

I feel it is getting popular, though that might just be because of its similarity to Madison, which there are way too many of! lol
