Anna was never a girly-girl. Maybe because she always wanted to flow Stuart everywhere - probably scared that if she didn't he'd go away, like David did. I can't beleive that this is happening...
5 years ago we moved the family to Washington so that Seb could take a desk job with the Navy so he would be able to come home every night... but things have changed. He's 45 years old, a father of 10, and they're sending him to Iraq! We always knew it could happen, he's in the armed forces after all, but we just didn't think about it. He leaves in 6 weeks time, and he'll be gone for a year. A whole year! He'll miss Del heading off to college, Mattie's senior prom, Sawyer & Ali starting school, Elijah & Austin's first bithday... so much... We're all just praying for him to come home safe at the end of it all.

We recently had quite the experience with our son, Grant, who decided to run away when he thought no one was paying any attention to him. One Saturday morning, Sara and Kate were helping me with the housework, while I took care of our newest addition, Jacob, as well as Josh, who was down with a cold. John was helping his father outside with some work on the house, and Livie and Natalie were going back and forth between helping their older sisters and playing in their bedroom. Grant felt a little left out as he tried to find someone to do something with him. Ordinarily, he and Josh would play together, but Josh didn't feel much up to doing anything, since he wasn't feeling well.
Needless to say, he felt compelled to run away from home, although he did think to leave a note for John and I to find in his bedroom. It wasn't either of us who found it, though, but Kate, who while going into the boys' room, saw the familiar third-grade handwriting scrawled on the paper. She immediately brought it to John and me, and of course, we were both worried, although I was probably more frantic, as John kept assuring me that kids are always 'running away' from home and that we'd find him safe and sound.
We had Sara call all his friends' houses, and John drove around the neighborhood looking for Grant, but after no sign of him for a couple of hours, we called the police. John continued his search, and as the police arrived, he came home with his little brother in tow. Grant told us that he'd been to the park and would hide out whenever he saw anyone familiar walk or drive by. Fortunately, John spotted him from the opposite side of the park, and although it took a little bit of prodding, was able to convince him to come home. Relieved, John and I weren't too anxious to punish Grant at the time. It was quite obvious that he'd originally thought he could take care for himself, when in fact, he couldn't. He's seemingly learned his lesson and says that he doesn't plan on running away again.

Caroline is moving out soon, and she promised River she'd invite him over to her apartment for some one-on-one time occasionally so he could get away from the insanity of our full house!
