[Opinions] Donald
My SO's father's name - and one he's starting to become interested in using. However, I absolutely hate it. For those of you who like it, what do you like about it? Try to talk me into liking it. What would you pair it with. For everyone - what type of person do you picture having the name Donald? What are some pros/cons to the name?

I'm sorry but Donald makes me think of a duck. But on the plus side, it makes me think of a very wealthy duck. ;) (Please forgive me, I'm tired.)I do kind of like how Donald Michael sounds.

How about Ronald ? I can see Ronald nn Ron making a comeback (Harry Potter's friend) but not Donald. At least not any time soon. I think of Donald Duck and Ronald McDonald (okay I know but I still like Ronald better). I would use it as a middle name. It's nice to honor relatives but it's YOUR baby so you choose the name. Don't try to make yourself like the name or talk yourself into it. You will regret it. Use what you like!!!!

Well, I'm no help here, because I agree with you on Donald. I just think it is incredibly dated. I guess it could experience a comeback. But even if the name was "in" I wouldn't like it. Donald is my grandfather's middle name, and the name he uses. It was supposed to be his first name, and I may have shared the reason why it became his middle name before, but can't remember. Not that I want to disrespect my late great grandparents, but their reason for deciding at the last minute to put Donald in the middle slot was sort of stupid. Anyway, his first name, which was originally supposed to be his middle name is Paul, which I just think is light years ahead of Donald as far as being timeless. It's nice that your SO wants to honor his father however, and I don't see why Donald can't be a middle name.

Unfortunately I won't be the one talking you into using this name. It's pretty unnattractive, and dumpy sounding.
On the up side however, it sounds like a very honest name, and as such I don't imagine a little boy Donald to be very devious.

Erm, I'm not a fan of Donald either :-)But the nn Don is cool. I know a lot of really great Don's (have no clue whether their full fn is Donald) and I think it works well for a child or adult. Donny is cute as well.Who I picture:Donald - kind of geeky, awkward, smart and preppy, maybe not conventionally attractive but adorableDon - nice, cool, a bit of a clown, energetic and friendly

I'm not much help. I absolutely hate it too. It's just so... doofy. It makes me think of Donald Duck mostly. And the funny thing is. I don't mind Donal. Donald doesn't look bad. It actually looks somewhat appealing. It just sounds so ugly to me.

Donald has never been a favorite of mine either. The "d" on the end just kills the lovely "DONN-ul" sound. I like the Irish variant Donal much more. It's pronounced, "DOH-nul." Do you like that any better? When in doubt, the mn position is always available for family names.

Not really - I think I get hung up on the DOH- sound. It just doesn't sound good to me.Unfortunately, I've already relegated his favorite name Aeneas into the middle name spot, so I'm not sure where I can slot Donald haha.

I know many people named Donald, including a cousin.
It's even used quite often in my French-speaking area, pronounced , sort of-"Donal".
I like it, good strong name.
