[Opinions] Smilla, Ronja and Linnea
What do you think of the name Smilla for a girl ? I never really liked it and even though I heard of "Smilla's Sense of Snow" I never read the book and I never watched the movie. Today I heard the name on television and I thought "wow, it's kind of cute". It reminds me of Stella and Ella but it seems a bit softer. And I know it doesn't belong here but I know that it was invented and I'd like to know if it has a meaning. Also is it pronounced SMEE-la or SMILL-la ? I prefer SMILL-la (on TV it was pr. SMILL-la as well but maybe someone from Scandinavia could tell me if it's the right pronunciation). Is the name too tied to the book and movie ? Is the character in the book a good one ? (I'd definetely read the book before I'd actually use the name.I also read "Ronia, The Robber's Daughter" again (book by Astrid Lindgren). I know the name existed before (it's in another book I also read which was released long before and mostz likely comes from the name Veronica even though I was told from a girl from Israel that Ronia (pronounced the same) is a Hebrew name and quite popular there) but I also really enjoyed Lindgren's book and the movie as well. The main character is a really brave and charming little girl. It's pronounced RON-ya and usually spelled Ronja but I've seen Ronya and Ronia as well. I always thought the nn's Ron and Roni were kind of cute. WDYT ?A friend of mine had a baby a few months ago and named her Linnea. She pronounces it lee-NAY-ah. WDYT ?

SMILL-la is the right pronounciaton, and it's one of my favourite names. I haven't read the book though. Both Ronja and Linnea are very pretty names too.
