I like it when pronounced properly. The way you like it is just straight up wrong. I don't mean to be rude but its true.
It definitely works for a red dragon, although Sakuramubo / Sakuramabo (don't remember which, it's been a long time since I took Japanese) would make more sense, because that's the word for cherry and
Sakura is
Cherry blossom which isn't red.
