Sakura is actually pronounced "Sah-koo-lah", with that odd r-sound that's extremely difficult for me to explain because it's not really an r sound, but it's not really an l sound either. There's no stress on any of the syllables. I've made that mistake plenty of times as well, accidentally putting stress on the first syllable, only to be smacked upside the head by my Japanese teacher, but you just kind of rush through the word.
For example, the name Setsuka isn't pronounced Set-soo-kah. It's Sets-kah, because it's said very quickly. Just think about rushing through a Japanese word and it'll make the pronunciation come kind of naturally.
I think Sakura is very pretty, although a bit overused. It always makes me think of Sakuran, the song. We used to have this Japanese teacher at my school who had taken up classical singing, so she always sang it very beautifully at special occasions.
