OoohSemiramide? I was just thinking about Semiramis (sp?) the other day and trying to decide if I like it or not. I assume Semiramide is the Italian form. Very intriguing! And Benvenuta is wonderful! I've never heard of Ortenzia before, but I love this Italian form of the name. Thanks!GREAT list. :-)

Yes, Semiramide(seh-mee-rah-MEE-deh) is the Italian form. I fell in love with it when I first heard of the Rossini opera by this name.I find that very few people like the name Benvenuta. I have to admit it's a bit clunky. I also love the French form, Bienvenue, which is also the French word for welcome(Bienvenu is the masculine form).

Maria
Eleonora
Amalia
Anna
AngelicaI'd just like to point out that Angelina technically is used only as a nickname for Angela in Italy.

ckRe: what are your favourite Italian girls names?Actually,I have cousins in the south of Italy who are baptised Angelina. This is their full name, not their nicknames and there is several generations of them, as they follow the tradition of naming after grandparents.
