Help[Opinions] WDYT of Edward?
Edward is a family name- my father's middle name and Grandfather's first name. My father's name is Edward John and my grandfather's was Edward Henderson. Which combo is better John Edward or Edward John. How about James Edward. I think the nicknames Ed, or Eddy are average, which might lead me to use Edward as a mn. In addition, Edward might age someone, considering the long history of the name, Any imput or suggestions are welcome.

Though, yes, I get how it reminds everyone of the politician (whom I love for his politics no matter who he's sleeping with).
As for Edward: I love it. But. That's because it's the mn of someone extremely dear to me (not family). That being said, even so, I do love Edward on his merits and he does not sound old to me; on the contrary I find Edward very handsome, and, in the face of so very, very many little Braeden's / Jaydin's / Kadon's etc ad nauseam, quite refreshing.
The thing I'm confused about, as I mentioned being in my subject line, is that your OP says "my father's middle name" is Edward and then you immediately say "my father's name is Edward John." Which is it? I'm interested partly because my father's name is John.
Okay, but anyway, I do have some Edward combos to show you. Just a few.

I've not looked at what anyone else said but as far as I go, Edward's a love. I think he's snazzy. Really. Recognisable, strong, handsome, snappy and friendly. I've known Edwards of all ages, he's rather like Elizabeth or Katherine for the girls, to me; a real classic. Hard to pinpoint an age for.
John Edward is handsome & classic. I'd rather Edward John, myself. Edward's a little more interesting than John to me. Edward James is lovely as well (I adore James, even if he does strike some people as "male filler").
There's also Ned & Ward for possible nicknames, in case Ed & Eddie don't appeal.

I love Edward! I like the nn Ned - it is spunkier than Ed and Eddie.
I like Edward John better than John Edward (because of the assocciation with the politician John Edwards).
James Edward is fine, I like Edward James better though.

I like it. It's very classic and historical and handsome. Edward John and John Edward are both nice. I like John Edward more, but it makes me think of John Edwards. James Edward is great too. I love James, nn Jamie. I agree, though. Ed and Eddie are no good, so Edward is better as a middle name.

Edward's one of my favorite male names. I like old names so I'm not worried about Edward's "aging" factor. Truthfully, I don't really want to use a nn with it to youthen it up either. If you don't like any of its nns, then do what I would do and just call him Edward all the time. I have a cousin who goes by Joseph and nothing but, so it's doable.
John Edward is blah and makes me think of the politician besides, and James Edward is even more boring. If you're going to use Edward as a mn, match it up with something more youthful like Logan or Dylan or Brandon.

John Edward makes me think of the politician John Edwards. I don't know whether that bothers you or not. It's still pretty good. But yes I think Edward is a bit too formal for a kid and Ed and Eddy are a bit too dated for my taste, but if they don't bother you then go ahead. James is a good name, but I dislike the nns Jim and Jimmy personally. These are just things that you yourself should consider. I can't tell you which is the best choice for you. I think boys names are tricky.

I don't really like it per se....but since it's a family name then I think it would make a nice mn.
