This is my daughter,
Cleopatra Sophannagh. We call her Patra.
You say: Hi Patra.
You think: A lot to live up to, but a nice name
This is my daughter,
Annabelle.
You say: Hi
AnnabelleYou think: A bit frilly for my taste
This is my son,
Bruno.
You say: Hi
BrunoYou think: Hmmm
Bruno? I’d never consider it.
This is my son,
Kenneth.
You say: Hi
Ken.
You think:
Kenneth strikes me as the ultimate geek name.
This is my daughter,
Gemma Juliette.
You say: Hi
GemmaYou think: Nice, though I prefer it spelled
Juliet.
Jemma Juliet would be nice too, giving her the JJ nickname option.
This is my son,
Rameses. We call him
Ram.
You say: Hi
RamYou think: Bam Thank you maam. Ouch. This is way too suggestive for anyone but an adult movie star. Isn’t
Ramses a brand of birth control, too?
This is my son, Fiyero.
You say: Hi Fi.
You think: Mis-spelled car name (Pontiac Fiero)
This is my daughter,
Cassiopeia. We call her Cassy.
You say: Hi Cassy.
You think: Cassy is classy,
Cassiopeia, not so much.
This is my daughter, Tobey.
You say: Hi Tobey.
You think: Okay, but keep in mind it’s used for boys too.
This is my son,
Shiloh.
You say: Hi
Shiloh.
You think: Last
Shiloh I heard of was a girl (jolie-pitt) and I don’t care for it for either sex, honestly. It falls into the pet name category for me.
This is my daughter,
Patience.
You say: Hi
Patience.
You think: I hope she doesn’t go by
Patty. Also, as virtue names go, impossible for a kid to live up to.
This is my son,
Kai.
You say: Hi
Kai!
You think:
Love this one!
These are my twin girls,
Hermione and
Helena. We call
Hermione Hermia.
You say: Hi
Helena &
Hermia.
You think: Someone lovees Shakespeare. :) I don’t care for twins names starting with the same letter—too cutesy.
Hermia is not an attractive name, and using
Hermione instead will get
Harry Potter jokes forever.
Helena is classic & rolls off the tongue.
These are my twin boys, Terrian and
Luke.
You say: Hi
Luke & Terrian...?
You think: I really like
Luke, but Terrian is very unusual. I don’t dislike it. I don’t like the two together though. Unlike
Hel & Her which were too similar, these names are too different. The names have very different personalities.
These are my mixed twins,
Minerva and
Tom.
You say: Hi
Minerva &
Tom.
You think: Same problem as Terrian and
Luke.
Minerva is very unusual,
Tom is ultra-traditional.
Minerva is a tough name, I’d consider it maybe for a middle name, but not a first name.
Tom is just too plain, it looks lonesome by itself. Maybe just swap
Tom and Terrian in these last two sets to solve the problem?
Luke &
Tom Terrian &
