I think I have a soft spot for Bruce because of the song, but otherwise it's just... dull. I don't know if it's really even masculine for me. When I think deeper about it, I think of a pudgy, balding, 40 something man who lives in his mother's basement :/
But then I listen to the song and it's all good again.

It's the butch-est (most masculine) name there is, as far as I'm concerned. Even more butch than Frank or Rowan. After all, it was my dad's name. It's also my son's middle name.
Second, I think of B. Lee, and then Springsteen. (ETA - oh, I forgot Willis. Funny how I have never really noticed this name on so many famous people, but there it is.) Definitely not gay, although I am also marginally aware of it being stereotyped as gay.
My dad got called "Bruce the Goose" as a nickname in high school. He sort of bragged about that.

Where I come from, "butch" doesn't mean "masculine"... not the way you mean it.

I would never use it, but I have a soft spot for Bruce. It has a lot of charm to it. As long as Brucie is never used... ugh!
heh heh. I'm reminded of a Ramona Quimby story where little Willa Jean introduced her new friend from nursery school: "This is Bruce, who doesn't wee-wee in the sandbox." Ramona "knew there must be a second Bruce at nursery school, who *did* wee-wee in the sandbox."
I don't guess any Bruce today would need that identifying addition to his name.

This has come up before, and I have to second that emotion. My father is gay, and the name Bruce has come up in discussion several times between us. We both agree it is the gayest name you can give a boy. My dad lives in SF's Castro district, and there are Bruces galore! I wouldn't care if I had a gay son (hey, at least I probably wouldn't have to watch sports with him!), but I still wouldn't choose that name.
I also know a woman who's given birth name is Kyle, and yes, she was a lesbian for about 15 years before she decided to switch teams. I know an Australian Kylie, but that's totally different than an American Kyle.

I adore it. This has been my favorite guys name for a little over two months now. I like that the sound is unusual without being far out or hard to say, and think its handsome.

well for dogs I don't know honestly I think I was thinking of Bruno, so I take the dog thing back.
Sharks most def. because the shark from Jaws, and Nemo are named Bruce. I have a fear of Great Whites, and I always think of that name associated with them. So it's NMS, it's not a bad name it just reminds me of sharks.
I think Bruce can work on a man, but as a baby I can't see it.
