I like Salvador and the nickname Sal. I can understand why the meaning might be and turn off (what a huge expectation to put on a kid huh?), but I wouldn't worry too much about it. Unlike Jesus and Angel, which have literal meanings in English, savior is a translation of Salvador and not generally known to English speakers.
