Help[Opinions] Amanda
I'm really having a thing for popular names right now. Don't worry, my favorites are still Estella, Aviva, Daisy, Octavia and Emmeline but first I started to like Hannah and now I am in an Amanda phase.
What do you think of Amanda ?
Currently it's quite underused. Do you think it will continue to fall ? Will it ever be out of the top 200 ? the top 500 ? the top 1000 ? or will it rise again soon, like Amy did ? Does it seem dated ? How many Amandas do you know and how old are they ? any who spell it differently ? What nicknames do they use ?
I really dislike the nn Mandy. Could that be a problem ? Do you like Amy or Manda as nicknames ? I would use it on its own. I like Amy but it is a separate name to me.

Well, since it is my name...
I do like it in spite of the fact it was super trendy when I was born. I have known over 40 others with my name (being a name nerd, I kept a list). It is a bit of a drag having such a common name when I am working. I currently work with three other Amandas. One time there were five of us. All of the other Amandas I know are in their 20s. Honestly, I have known my fair share of dim Amandas, so I can understand why others can see it as a flimsy name.
My nickname is Mandy, so that is what I am used to, but only with family and close friends. I suppose I can handle Amy as a nickname but I see it as an entirely seperate name as well. I really dislike Manda. Nobody ever tries to call me Mandy instead of Amanda if they don't know me, so I think it is safe to say that people won't force the nickname.
I understand your issues with "a man, duh." I'm used to my name, so it doesn't bother me much, yet I think it sounds better in languages other than English.
I love Amandine too. I've never met one.

Amanda still sounds dated to me, I expect it will continue to fall. It's likable enough, though, that it'll probably fall slowly and stay on the charts a while. I haven't met an Amanda in ten years or so, and never have I met an Amandine. I dislike Mandy and Manda as nns, but love Amy (only as a nn).
A friend of mine used to always say "Huggenkiss" when he said or heard Amanda.

I know to many Amanda's to count. Most are between 17-20. A few are younger, I know one who is 8 and one or two that are 4ish. I don't think of it as a dated name, and I definitely think it has potential for a comback.

I know a ton of Amanda's. I know two who go by the nn Mandy. One of the Amanda's I know is in 8th grade, one is 18 or so, one is 28, one is 21, one is 26.
Amanda isn't a bad name despite its popularity. You won't find as many little Amanda's these days like you might've 20 years ago. But I think it's still pretty popular.

I know a couple Amandas. Two who goe by just Amanda, one who goes by Manda & one who goes by Mandi. I don't like the name and never have. It seems like one of those names that was popular for like 5 years for one generation and then went out and hasn't been used since. (Just imo of course, not necessarily true). Same way I see Donna & Felicia... My mum grew up in the 70's w/ a couple of both but my grandmother had no friends w/ either name and I've never known either besides my mums friend.

I know two Amanda's.
My husband's boss, whose aged around early to mid 30's. And a girl, whose in my son's class aged 12.
Not a fan of this name, is very dated and as you mentioned, i do hear a man duh. Not very attractive!

I know a lot of people named Amanda, most of whom are in their early 20s, but I know a few little girls and a few older women as well. It's a nice name because it really works well at every age. Some of these people go by Mandy, but most just use Amanda. I don't think Amy makes a good nickname for Amanda only because it's too much of a name on it's own. I'd be surprised if this name fell completely out of style; I bet it will just go through phases of greater and lesser popularity.

When I think of Amanda in the 19th Century sense, I really like it. I think it would be nice if paired with other older or traditional named siblings. I also think it makes a nice middle name. I really like Katherine Amanda.

It's possible that people would call an Amanda Mandy, but I don't think it's as inevitable as like a Thomas being called Tom. I've never heard of Amy as a nn for Amanda. It's kind of neat, but I just prefer straight Amanda. Ammy would be a cool nn though.
