[Opinions] Homer
I posted on this name some time ago. Back then everybody seemed to hate it but I just got some nice comments on it so I wonder whether people have changed their minds. I always thought Homer was really handsome and even though I watch "The Simpsons" at least once a week or so (it is always on TV here, everday for an hour at least) I don't even think of Homer Simpson when I hear it.1. Do you think of Homer Simpson ?2. Is Homer Simpson the only "person" you can think of ? I mean does he pop into your head first or can you also think of someone/something else ?3. What would you except someone named Homer to be/look like ?4. Do you know anyone named Homer ? Do you know why they were named Homer and what their middle names are ? Do they get teased ?5. Do you think a child named Homer will get teased ? Is the name trashy because of the character ? Does it sound stupid/dumb/trashy to you ?6. Do you think it could get popular ? (two celebrities used it even though that was 8 years ago or so, one was Richard Gere).7. Do you like the nn Homie ?8. What do you think of Homer Atticus ? Homer Richard ? Homer Atticus Richard Asher (too long ?) ?

1. Do you think of Homer Simpson ?
Yes. But he's not the first person.2. Is Homer Simpson the only "person" you can think of ? I mean does he pop into your head first or can you also think of someone/something else ?
Well, there is the poet. And a character from a series I used to ~looove~ when I was younger, the first of which is Tomorrow When The War Began, by John Marsden. Homer was my favourite character.3. What would you except someone named Homer to be/look like ?
Well, in the book he is a bit of a ruffigan. Like, always playing pranks and stuff. But then these kids find themselves in a hard out warzone and he takes the lead and turns out pretty awesome. So that's what I think of when I think what a Homer would be like. :-D4. Do you know anyone named Homer ? Do you know why they were named Homer and what their middle names are ? Do they get teased ?
No.5. Do you think a child named Homer will get teased ? Is the name trashy because of the character ? Does it sound stupid/dumb/trashy to you ?
No. As soon as people meet your little Homer, they will think of him.6. Do you think it could get popular ? (two celebrities used it even though that was 8 years ago or so, one was Richard Gere).
I'm not one for making predictions, especially for a country I don't live in.7. Do you like the nn Homie ?
Inside the house only.8. What do you think of Homer Atticus ? Homer Richard ? Homer Atticus Richard Asher (too long ?) ?
Homer Atticus is awesome beyond words. Not a fan of the others.~If you like a name, it doesn't matter what other people think!~

1. Do you think of Homer Simpson?
> Yes.2. Is Homer Simpson the only "person" you can think of? I mean does he pop into your head first or can you also think of someone/something else?
> No. The first Homer that comes to mind is, well, Homer: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HomerI also think of the baseball term, if that really matters.3. What would you except someone named Homer to be/look like ?
> Quite homely and bland. 4. Do you know anyone named Homer? Do you know why they were named Homer and what their middle names are? Do they get teased?
> No, I don't. I don't even know of anyone named Homer.5. Do you think a child named Homer will get teased? Is the name trashy because of the character? Does it sound stupid/dumb/trashy to you?
> Yes, I think he'd be horribly teased. God forbid the kid ever have weight issues. I don't think the name is trashy in the way Nevaeh or Jaden are trashy, but I do think it has been ruined by Matt Groening. (It never sounded good to begin with...)6. Do you think it could get popular? (Two celebrities used it even though that was eight years ago or so, one was Richard Gere.)
> Honestly, no.7. Do you like the nn Homie?
> No, it's quite ugly to my ears.8. What do you think of Homer Atticus? Homer Richard? Homer Atticus Richard Asher (too long?)
> First, can I say that you do not need to put a space between the end of your sentence and question marks?

1. Do you think of Homer Simpson ?
-Yes, I think of Homer Simpson2. Is Homer Simpson the only "person" you can think of ? I mean does he pop into your head first or can you also think of someone/something else ?
-The first thing I think of is the mythology writer of The Iliad and The Odyssey, who I just learned many historians think was probably a woman which makes me super duper happy :)3. What would you except someone named Homer to be/look like ?
-I would expect them to have very rounded, big facial features for some reason. Also not very smart. This may be Homer Simpson having an influence here.4. Do you know anyone named Homer ? Do you know why they were named Homer and what their middle names are ? Do they get teased ?
-I don't know any.5. Do you think a child named Homer will get teased ? Is the name trashy because of the character ? Does it sound stupid/dumb/trashy to you ?
-They might get teased, yes, simply because Homer Simpson is pretty much the only person in pop culture that has the name. I think it sounds sort of dumb, but I don't know whether or not that's because of the character.6. Do you think it could get popular ? (two celebrities used it even though that was 8 years ago or so, one was Richard Gere).
-I don't think it will get popular at all but I think it could get to the point where it's not so unheard of in real life.7. Do you like the nn Homie ?
-Ick, no, I think of Marge Simpson calling Homer Simpson that. He's the only person I've ever heard "Homie" on.8. What do you think of Homer Atticus ? Homer Richard ? Homer Atticus Richard Asher (too long ?) ?
Homer Atticus Richard Asher is way too long.
I think Homer Atticus is pretty cool, and very literary.

1. Do you think of Homer Simpson ? Unfortunately that is the first character that comes to mind, which is really a pity since I imagine before the Simpsons (eons ago) it was perceived as a dignified, cerebral name. 2. Is Homer Simpson the only "person" you can think of ? I mean does he pop into your head first or can you also think of someone/something else ? I also think of the Odessy. 3. What would you except someone named Homer to be/look like ? Hmmm. I don't know.4. Do you know anyone named Homer ? Do you know why they were named Homer and what their middle names are ? Do they get teased ? No5. Do you think a child named Homer will get teased ? Is the name trashy because of the character ? Does it sound stupid/dumb/trashy to you ? Whether or not the child gets teased depends on the child. Some children will get teased no matter what, and other kids are like tephlon - nothing sticks to them. 6. Do you think it could get popular ? (two celebrities used it even though that was 8 years ago or so, one was Richard Gere). Maybe a few years after the Simpsons gets off the air (it must be the longest running show ever) it could gain some traction. Of course Simpsons will probably be in syndication for the next 100 years so who knows. It does seem to have the potential to become hipster (so geek it is chic). 7. Do you like the nn Homie ? No - now that is too much like Homer Simpson. 8. What do you think of Homer Atticus ? Homer Richard ? Homer Atticus Richard Asher (too long ?) ? I like the first two combos, but Homer Atticus Richard Asher is too long.

1. Do you think of Homer Simpson ? My first thought would be the Greek poet but then yes Homer Simpson2. Is Homer Simpson the only "person" you can think of ? I mean does he pop into your head first or can you also think of someone/something else ? The poet also.3. What would you except someone named Homer to be/look like ? I would expect a fairly old and twee professor4. Do you know anyone named Homer ? Do you know why they were named Homer and what their middle names are ? Do they get teased ? Nope5. Do you think a child named Homer will get teased ? Is the name trashy because of the character ? Does it sound stupid/dumb/trashy to you ? I do think a Homer would get teased due to the Simpson connection, it seems to be an especially popular show among pre-teen boys.6. Do you think it could get popular ? (two celebrities used it even though that was 8 years ago or so, one was Richard Gere). I don't see it getting popular certainly not any time soon.7. Do you like the nn Homie ? Nope too much like a popular slang term for friend.8. What do you think of Homer Atticus ? Homer Richard ? Homer Atticus Richard Asher (too long ?) ? Homer Atticus is the best of the three but not really a fan.

1. Do you think of Homer Simpson ? Not immediately, but yes.2. Is Homer Simpson the only "person" you can think of ? I mean does he pop into your head first or can you also think of someone/something else ? I also think of the Greek dude and this guy I know.3. What would you except someone named Homer to be/look like ? Nerdy, academic, polite, boring4. Do you know anyone named Homer ? Do you know why they were named Homer and what their middle names are ? Do they get teased ? My great-grandfather's name was Homer Clark, and I used to be friends with a guy named Homer Oliver (he was a III). I'm not sure if my friend ever got teased for his name because nobody really paid attention to him in high school.5. Do you think a child named Homer will get teased ? Is the name trashy because of the character ? Does it sound stupid/dumb/trashy to you ? I think a kid named Homer would get teased for their name more than the average kid. He'd probably get "D'oh!" yelled at him a lot. Homer Simpson does make the name seem stupid and kind of trashy too.6. Do you think it could get popular ? (two celebrities used it even though that was 8 years ago or so, one was Richard Gere). I can't see it getting popular at all because I don't think people can be rid of the Homer Simpson image for a long time.7. Do you like the nn Homie ? Not at all. It sounds like Homey, like what ghetto people say.8. What do you think of Homer Atticus ? Homer Richard ? Homer Atticus Richard Asher (too long ?) ? Homer Atticus is pretty cool. Homer Richard is kind of nerdy, and the last one is too long. What about Homer Richard Atticus? I'd like that the best.

I LOVE this name. Homer Atticus is LOVE! My favourite GP's rolled into one.

I was one that just commented on it, and I wasn't really an active member a while ago, so I wasn't here when you asked about it.I love Homer, Homer Atticus being my favorite, it's really handsome. I don't think of Homer Simpson at all (but then again, I love the name Cosmo, which is the name of another cartoon character here). I think of all the amazing mythological creatures and stories inside the Odyssey. It's a very rich name.
I don't know anyone named Homer, I don't think it will get popular. I don't really love the nn Homie, but I can't think of a better one, and it's kind of cute. I imagine a Homer being a tall dark and handsome, a Greek hottie! I don't really like Homer Richard, Homer Atticus is just so smashing in it's rich history, that said, while I don't love Homer Atticus Richard Asher, it's not that bad. I am used to names that long in my family, and I love honoring people in names. (Twin boys named Homer Atticus and Richard Asher would be amazing)

Homer Simpson...psht. There are so many greater Homers that I think of, of course, I'm not everyone so I can't speak for everyone else. I've loved Homer for years and I'd use it in a heartbeat. My first thought is always the Greek poet.I would expect a Homer to be intellectual and maybe a professor of history or lingustics. For some reason, I'd expect a Homer to be pedantic. :)Homer may get teased for his name and he may not. It really depends on social factors/demographics, I think.I don't think it couldn't get popular, honestly. I don't see it being the next Ava.

I know an Uncle Homer, so I always think of him when I hear it. His middle is Clair. I don't know if he got teased or not. While it's not my favorite name, I do think it sounds classy, especially with Atticus. I like Homer Atticus Richard Asher as well, although I would probably drop Richard. I'm not fond of the nn Homie, I really don't think Homer needs to be shortened. I would probably think that someone named Homer would have blonde hair and be tall, I also think it sounds like someone who would be in law or medical school. I don't think it'll get very popular. No, I don't think of Homer Simpson. I have seen the show enough, but it never stuck in my head that I would think of him upon hearing the name.Someone might get teased, but really everyone does. Even really popular names get teased. I wouldn't worry about it.

1. Do you think of Homer Simpson ?
  • I know of Homer Simpson, but it's not like overwhelming.2. Is Homer Simpson the only "person" you can think of ? I mean does he pop into your head first or can you also think of someone/something else ?
  • Homer, the Greek poet. One of the all time greatest writers in history... yeah, sort of overshadows the cartoon character!3. What would you except someone named Homer to be/look like ?
  • I don't try to do these questions. I think the name grows on the person.4. Do you know anyone named Homer ? Do you know why they were named Homer and what their middle names are ? Do they get teased ?
  • Sorry, nope5. Do you think a child named Homer will get teased ? Is the name trashy because of the character ? Does it sound stupid/dumb/trashy to you ?
  • Undoubtedly, but I think a child name John would get teased, too. I don't think that's a big enough deal not to use a name.6. Do you think it could get popular ? (two celebrities used it even though that was 8 years ago or so, one was Richard Gere).
  • No, I don't.7. Do you like the nn Homie ?
  • No. That is far more Simpsons than Homer in general. And it's just too cutesy for me.8. What do you think of Homer Atticus ? Homer Richard ? Homer Atticus Richard Asher (too long ?) ?
  • Homer Atticus is very literary! I am not the biggest fan of Richard. All four names together is just too rambly because it's not the greatest flow. Homer Asher, however, is handsome. The double -er endings kind of just flow. And I think both names are great!

    1. Vaguely.2. No. I think of the Greek Homer (though I know nothing about him, he does come to mind) and there's a celebrity with a son named Homer.3. I, for some reason, imagine him to be bald. I don't think this is all Homer Simpson's doing though, because I don't imagine fat or stupid (actually, I see a Homer being quite intelligent), but I imagine them being bald.4. No, I don't know anyone with any interesting names :P5. On name alone, I don't really know. 6. Hmm. Something about it makes it seem like it's not ready for a comeback. It might be the long -o- sound in the middle of the name; everyone still likes the long a sound.7. No. That reminds me more of either the Simpsons, or people hangin' in the club wit they homies.8. I like Homer Richard. Something about Homer Atticus doesn't sit right with me.

    1. Yes, immediately.2. I first think of Homer Simpson, and then the author of the "Odyssey".3. Well, pretty much like Homer Simpson to be honest. :P Fat, bald, not particularly attractive.4. No, no one.5. I don't think it sounds trashy but, well, pretty silly. I do think there would be a lot of teasing because of the Simpsons.6. I seriously doubt it.7. Well, it's actually pretty cute. :P8. I love the name Atticus, so Homer Atticus appeals to me the most. Homer Richard seems like a weird combo. Richard is totally a different class than Homer. And yes, I do think Homer Atticus Richard Asher it a bit too much.
