I think it's beautiful and elegant. I really like it. I pronounce it OO-zeh-nee.

I think it is really pretty. I think the French pronunciation is the most attractive.

I like it a lot. It reminds me of Empress Eugenie and for a while I was on a "yoo" name kick. It used to be one of my favorite names, but I've largely forgotten about it. Anyway, I prn it YOO-jeh-nee.

I love Eugenie (pronounced yoo-JEE-nee).

This reminds me of when Princess Eugenie of York was born. My sister, who has always been somewhat "into" the British royals, heard the birth and the name announced on the radio. She called me and said, "Have you heard what Andrew and Fergie named their baby?" I said, "No, what?" She said, "OO-ZEN-EE." I said, "What?" She said, "OO-ZEN-EE." I said, "What the heck is that?" She replied, "Have you ever heard that name before?" I said, "No, it's totally weird." She said, "I never have either."Well, at some point we realised that the name was Eugenie. However, we both pronounce it U-JANE-EE, and the pronunciation she had heard on the radio was totally foreign to us, so foreign that we didn't even connect it to the name Eugenie.Anyway, I really like it, but only pronounced U-JANE-EE. OO-ZEN-EE still sounds totally weird to me.

I like it, although I like Eugenia a bit more. I pronounce it you-JEAN-ee.

Well, I don't hate it, but it seems like a nickname to me. Is there more than one pronunciation? I only know of the u-zhe-NEE one.

I've heard/seen: 'YOO-jen-ee', 'yoo-zhen-EE' and 'yoo-JEE-nee'.

Oh, thanks, I've never heard those. I still like u-zhe-NEE best. :)

Just out of curiosity, do you think that pronunciation would be usable in English-speaking countries?

I think it would. While I don't live in an English-speaking country, I don't live in a French-speaking one either, and I've never seen any problems with Eugénie. There was one in my class one year. Most teachers pronounced her name "oy-GEN-ye" at first, but only that one time. They always pronounced it the right way after she had corrected them.Or maybe my teachers were just really dumb, because some also kept on calling me Daniel instead of Daniela, despite my being obviously female.

Eugenie has been a big love of mine for years! It's very nice and pretty, but at the same time manages to be solid and strong. I only like it pronounced the French way: oo-zhay-NEE.
