[Opinions] Martin
I'm really liking Martin at the moment. It is not too popular, is common to many languages, and is not too weird. The only thing I don't like is the nickname Marty. (Do you think people would use Marty automatically?)What do you think of Martin? Also, any sibset suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I love the name. I just love it. I think it sounds very handsome, sweet, and sophisticated. I hate Marty though. I would just constantly correct anyone who called him Marty that his name was Martin. The only thing that stops me from using this name, is that in my accent, or where I am, everyone taps their t's and often turn them into a d sound. Meaning, that names like Patty, Catalina, and Natalie, all come out sounding like Paddy, Cadalina, and Nadalie. They also put glutteral stops in names in replace for a letter. I hate this, and it's my pet peeve to hear people say the name Martin more like "MAR(glutteral stop/tapped t)-un" I'd constantly be wanting to correct them and say "No, it's mar-TIN"

I LOVE Martin. It's in my top few for boys. I don't think Marty automatically comes to mind, and it would be easy enough to avoid. I've only known one Martin in my life, but he just went by Martin.

I actually do like Martin. I don't think I would ever use it, though but if I did it would be as a middle name. I have known a few Martin's and no one ever called them Marty.

I like it a quite a bit, too. I don't know about the nn Marty... I dislike it, too, so I wouldn't use it. I don't really think people wold automatically use it, and you could always correct them if they did.I personally like it because of Martin the Warrior, a key character in Brian Jacques' Redwall series. Because of this, I would probably use it in a sibset with Luke, Matthias and/or Mariel (other Redwall characters with usable names).

My brother is called Martin Johannes. I think it's an okay name, but nothing special. He never got the "Marty" thing, but then, that nickname isn't commonly used here.
