[Opinions] Ailis
Hi in searching google extensively for the correct pronunciation of Ailis i seem to get differing opinions. Some say it's Aye-lish others Eye-lish and then Ay-leesh. I have got a little Irish pocket book of names at home and it has listed the correct pronunciation at the back of it. For Ailis (with an accent over the second i)it's pronounced Aye-lish. However Ailis spelt without an accent over the second i-just a normal dot on top, it's pronounced AH-LICE. Go figure!!
The thing is with all my internet searches it doesn't seem to distinguish between the sutle differences that the accent makes, everyone just says that you pronounce it Aye-lish.
If anyone has any knowledge of this please comment as i'm confused but i really like the name spelt like this, having Gaelic heritage too.On another note if anyone knows how to pronounce Aileas and Aelas too that would also be helpful :)

The usual spelling is Eilís which can can be pronounced Ey-lish or Ay-lish. Ailís would be Ay-lish - I have never seen this spelling though I have seen Ailish - an Anglicisation of Eilís.I have never come across Ailis(no fada) but it would be Ay-lis. However I would not be surprised to find an Ailis calling herself Ay-lish - Irish people are not always strict about applying fadas(accents).
