Just wondering if I could get away with pronouncing it ah-LEE-see-uh? It's how Alicia Silverstone pronounces hers and I guess people never really got it, considering that she is only known as eh-LISH-uh Silverstone here.
How do you pronounce it?
Do you prefer Alice over Alicia? (I like both names and can't decide)
Do you know anyone named Alicia or variant (Alisha etc)? How old are they, how do they spell it and do you happen to know any middle names?

I really love this name but I fear people will always pronounce it like Alisha or even Aleesha or something just not the way I want it to be pronounced. I also think it will be constantly misspelled even though I'd use the original spelling. So far I've seen Alicia, Alisha, Aleesha, Elisha, Alecia (I hate this) etc etc

I once new a girl named Alycia (ah-LEE-see-uh). She said her parents wanted that pronunciation, so they made up their own spelling for it. However, she said it is always mispronounced as Alicia (ah-LEE-sha) when people first meet her.
I would pronounce Alicia ah-LEE-sha or maybe ah-LISH-uh.
I'm not such a fan of Alice, but I guess it's alright.
The Alycia I knew is 22 now, but I don't remember her middle name.

I don't think its a dated name. I actually think it fits in the same category that mine (Colleen) does, where most people have met or know one, but its not a name you really encounter often.

I do know several Alicia's. It seems like it really had a moment of trendiness in the town I grew up in. One is in college now and her name is Alicia Kay (A-lee-sha). The other is Alisha (a-lee-sha also) but I don't know her mn. I know a Alisha that is in her 20's (pretty sure hers is pronounced A-lih-sha. Also, a physician in our town named his daughter Alysia. I also know a lot of Alisa, Alissa, Alyssa's.

I do think it is sort of dated, not bad, but yeah kinda like Amanda. The main problem I have with this name is that there are so many variant pronunciations and spellings that I find it to be a confusing name. I think where I live it would almost always be pronounced A-lee-sha...that is the norm prn around here.

I think Alicia is pretty trashy (no offense to anyone) and Alice is lovely, simple and beautiful. So I prefer Alice.

I like Alicia pronounced a-LEE-see-uh much more than a-LEE-sha or a-LI-sha. I know an a-LEE-see-ah. It is a valid pronunciation, yes you can get away with it.
I still much prefer Alice. Simple and clean. Classic. Alicia just feels like it's trying too hard. Don't get me wrong, I like it well enough, I think its pretty. I'd just never use it myself and would rather meet an Alice.

Parents today grew up watching Alyssa Malano (spelling? sorry!) on Who's the Boss? and the name sunk in. The pronunciation is also much more straight forward than Alicia.
