I never read "Pippi Longstocking", but that was one of the first things that popped into my head when I heard the name. It's not as popular in the U.S.; in fact, I don't think I've ever met an Astrid in my life.

It doesn't really makes me think of "Pippi Longstocking" (huh, it looks wierd! IN swedish we call her "Pippi Långstrumpa" so I'm used to that =P) but I think of Astrid in general since she written so many books that I loved as a child. To me it sounds like scandinavian names becomes more and more popular in the US! Like Freya/Freja, Sören, Björn, Ingrid, Siri, Astrid, Kjell, Torsten, Kai...
