[Facts] Re: Does anyone know the meaning of Tithonus?
in reply to a message by Melissa
Tithonus is the Latinized form of Tithonos from Greek Mythology.
This lists a possible meaning and the only one I've come across:

Midnight stands darkly on the road,
and burdened by stars, tumbles down.
You can't step beyond your fence
without trampling the universe.

The site is very helpful. I've just started reading Greek plays and I think it will be a great tool for that too.

Good to see you on the board again ... welcome back!
So Tithonos has nothing to do with grasshoppers, then? I've always wondered, because so often there's a pun, often a name pun, at the root of the transformation stories. Interesting! (Can't think of any examples right now, of course: Sod's Law kicking in as usual.)
