[Opinions] Twins
I'm new to this site's message boards but I've been lurking around the name part for years now. I'm a twin myself and for the most part I liked the twin name section. I think having names that mean the same thing but that are from different cultures is pretty cool. I'm not a big fan of anagrams but I've seen worse.I want to know if people here think it's cute to actually name your twins something like "Jack and Jill" or "Anna Christina and Anna Karen" or I've seen in some cases the same exact name. I don't know, I always found that so creepy to me as a twin. What about you guys?Edit: My twin and I share the same middle name, Renee, and although we've somewhat complained in the past, it never really bothered us that much. The same first name just seems weird.

Mary Margaret and Mary Frances...On the soap All My Children, there were twins w/ those names and one went by Maggie, while the other went by Frankie. I thought that was pretty cool.I like when twin names have some kind of cool connected meaning or maybe even start with the same letter. Like I have cousins whose names are Gregory and Greylon. I would probably shy away from the rhyming names though

Our first names are completely different, Christine and Kimberly, they were just two names my mom liked. I might have actually ended up as a boy, and then it would have been Sean and Christine. As for the same middle name, my mom's just uncreative, she wasn't like "Oh this is cute!" But yeah, thanks. I was beginning to wonder if I was one of the only ones that thought some mothers of twins were insane. Names really shouldn't be a cute joke.

I personally dont like themes such as Winter and Summer or Hayley and Kayley. I like two uniquely different names such as Jacob and Braden.

I don't mind little hidden themes, but that's as far as I would go. I don't like names that start with the same letter or rhyme (i.e. I know twins name Brayden Ray and Aiden Rene (g), Julie and Jolie, David Lee and Daniel Lynn, and Derrel and Cheryl). I just feel twins are two different people and deserve two different names, but names that at least compliment each other. I wouldn't use something too different Mildred and Katelynn, but names like Eleanor and Matilda or Benjamin and Owen. As far as same MNs, it's okay, but not for me. I have so many names I'd like to use that I'd feel I was uncreative by using the same name twice. Welcome to the boards btw!

I think its cruel to give twins the same FN.
I think its obnoxious and twee to give them rhyming names,
I do however, like the idea of themes, like aster and seren etc.

I don't think it's cute at all to give similar sounding names to twins. It's like implying that they aren't really distinct individuals but more like clones, and twins, esp. identicals, sometimes already have trouble defining their identity from each other. However, I must say I rather like the idea of a hidden theme for twin names, such as names that look and sound totally different but have similar meanings, such as Malka and Regina, or Deborah and Melissa. People would be unlikely to notice except if they have an interest in name etymologies, and the kids themselves wouldn't really notice until they're old enough to wonder about how their names were chosen and what they mean.A case like yours is a little odd, but since middle names aren't really used that much it's not so bad, if your first names are distinct enough.

I don't like twin names that are too similar, but I do think that they should go together. I.E. Addison and Riley, rather than Addison and Emma, or Riley and Leah etc. But I feel that way about all sibling names, not just twin names. I absolutely hate rhyming twin names (Mia and Lia) or boy/girl twins with the b/g version of the same name (Michael and Michelle). I don't think twins should have the same first or middle name, but it's ok for the middle names to be a variation of each other (Anne and Anna or Mary and Maria etc).

I agree, these theme-y name sets that are given to twins are just obnoxious. To me, it kind of compromises a child's sense of personal identity when she has a name that's about one letter away from her sister/brother. Mary and Marie would just be annoying to me if I was a part of that set. There are some themes that do work for me, like historical context or same meaning. For instance, BTN suggests Elijah and Joel, which I would use in a heartbeat. I also like Merav and Michal for girls, as they were sisters in the Old Testament. I think that as long as you don't go over the top with themes, it works fine.

I don't mind a subtle theme with twin names (like the middle names are flower names or the first names are Irish, for example). But I don't really like it when they start with the same letter, and I really dislike names that sound similar. The same first or middle name would be just as bad or worse. I think twins will share enough being twins, so they should have their own individual names.

Welcome to the boards.I don't have a problem if people name their twins theme names (like both flower names or both colour names) or names that start with the same letter (Lily and Laura or Lily and Levi or something) and don't even mind if they have the same or similar meanings, but thats it.I don't like when people give their twins names that rhyme (Jillian and Lillian for example)
