Help[Opinions] Clark and Astrophel
Astrophel has been grabbing me lately. The "str" really adds something to it for me. Opinions?
Also, I used to absolutely hate the name Clark, but now I'm really liking it. It's my grandma's maiden name, and I've recently found a magnificent artist named Harry Clarke, both of which endear me to it.
At this point I would totally ask for opinions on Clark Meriwether, but I just realised that it's extremely tied to Meriwether Lewis & William Clark.

I honestly thought Astrophel was Apostrophe at first.

I was into Astrophel for a while until the As- syllable started to bother me.
Clark is totally sharp and now seems unconventional. I like it a lot. Well, on paper, or on your kid. The reason it never made my list, I guess, is that I just can't quite picture myself calling my son that. It sounds too ... something. It's just not one of "my" names, not a name for my family somehow ... hope you know what I mean.
Yeah, Clark Meriwether = slight ouch. But I don't think people would pick it up most of the time. It wouldn't be that bad.

Well, I definitely love the meaning of Astrophel. And I think the name itself could grow on me given time.
Clark is a longtime love of mine, due in part to the fact that it's also my (paternal) grandmother's maiden name. I like it's crisp sound and masculine feel.

Regarding Astrophel, I had a thought about it earlier tonight that was basically ditto what you just posted. It's a name I'm really starting to dig, though right now it's in more of an obscure sense where I don't really think about it unless someone else mentions it. You're right about the 'str' sound - it's very appealing. I also like the 'phel' ending.
Clark has never really been my style, but then I don't having any personal associations that endear me to it. I don't actively dislike it, and I can see myself liking it in the right context. Disregarding the Lewis and Clark association, I'm actually very drawn to Clark Meriwether. A combo in that style could definitely turn me on to Clark.
