[Opinions] Re: Ottoline
in reply to a message by Wordsmith
I have a soft spot for feminine, Odo-related names, like Odile, Odilia, Odetta (swan lake), Ottilia and yes, Ottoline. The last name is especially wonderful, because as a person who lives in Finnland (and here the name Otto is very popular) it looks like a very odd feminization of Otto. Like Balthazarine. :) Very sweet, friendly and kinda strong name.
Ohh, how many brilliant combos! I think I won't have the energy to comment on each of these, so I'll just pick my favourites. Do you say AW-taw-leen, AW-taw-lien or aw-taw-LEEN? For example Ottoline Dorothea is flawless pronounced aw-taw-LEEN daw-raw-TE-ah, but by actually any other pronunciation it will get somewhat problematic. I guess the most "normal" pronunciation by an English-speaker is AW-taw-leen, so my favourites are marked from this perspective.
Ottoline Bertha, Ottoline Blanche (how eye-catching!), Ottoline Cora (maybe a little dry, but still wonderful), Ottoline Elsa (so romantic and shining), Ottoline Erma, Ottoline Eustacia (the rhythm is good), Ottoline Flora, Ottoline Frances (Ohh, so old-British), Ottoline Hesper, Ottoline Margot (I find this delicious).
:)
