This is in my very top fav. names:Because it is my husband's all time fav. name. He'd name our first daughter this in a heart beat if I let him. He's been set on this name as his daughters name since he first read the book, like years ago.I still slightly prefer Caroline, it feels so much sweeter, and every Caroline I've met has been so incredibly sweet, but Coraline has better nickname qualities. It would be Coraline, nn Cora, or Caroline, nn Callie.Oh, also, I predict that Coraline will make a swoop of popularity because of the movie. Caroline is now really popular, and people wanting it, but not wanting the popular Caroline will attach onto this, and also they will use this name because Dakota Fanning stars in this movie I bet.

I'd like it SO much better pronounced cora-LEEN, however, given the pronunciation in the movie, that's not likely to happen. I don't care for the trendy, hip direction the name is about to undergo. I'd be more inclined to go with Cora, Coralie, Corinna or Corinne.Re: Caroline, I like it much better. Then again, it's my dd's mn. And strangely enough, it's the only name with 'line' at the end that I don't mind.

What about Coralie or Carolina?

Coralie is fine, but I just don't like Carolina or Caroline. probably because I've never met a nice one.

Love it if pronounced CORA-leen. It sounds rather sweet, classy, and Southern along the lines as Maybelle.

I think it's a really nice name, it's been on my name list for a while though there are other similar names I like better (Cora, Caroline). I've actually never read the book (I plan to sometime, I hear it's quite good)I think I'm saying it wrong, though, because I've always said cor-a-LEEN, but in the preview to the film they all said cor-a-LINE and when a friend and I were discussing it a few days ago (she's thinking of having us read it in our book club thing next semester) she also called the book cor-a-LINE. That's a bit disappointing, because I prefer cor-a-LEEN.

I was thinking about this recently. I don't love it, but I like it much more than Caroline. I love the Cora part, it's the -line that I dislike.

Coraline is my 5y old daughter's mnIn honor of Neil Gaiman's heroine, of course. Coraline is one of my favorite books written by him (it was better than Door from Neverwhere! heehee). The biggest "if we have a girl" name discussion between my huband and I was whether Coraline would be her first or middle name.

I much prefer either Cora or Coralie. Coraline seems contrived.

I love it. I read the book last year for a uni paper and loved it - the little girl is awesome which made me love the name. I would be very tempted to use it actually. I think Matilda and Coraline might be a GP twinset for me - both smart strong little girls from books.

It's actually kind of pretty... and I agree it's a bit nicer than Caroline... Of course, I had a good buddy in uni named Coral, so that would add to it... Though one of the coolest skaters ever came from Caroline, Ab. (Kurt Browning).

I think it will always get confused with Caroline. I'm not a fan of Caroline or Coraline.

i really like this name. i first heard of it from the book by neil gaiman. i like caroline okay, but this is a little fresher, and i like the nickname options, too. it's cute, but can definately age well!

p.s.i also know someone named coralyn. i like coraline better, but for people who are anti- "-ine names", it could be a good option. coralin could be a variant.

I'm partial to it because I like Cora. However I dislike -ine names. It's okay, a little better that Caroline.
