Brazil did not enter WWII until 1942. The Kassars rejoiced that the dictator of Brazil decided to support the Allies instead of Hitler.
Anibal stayed at home due to a bad leg, but Mario, Lucio, Claudio, Maximo, and Edmundo joined the army. They were sent to North Africa to combat the Axis powers. Unfortunately, Lucio was badly wounded, and died in 1944.
Early in 1945, the family celebrated Candida's 90th birthday. Candida sent letters to her great-grandsons who were at war saying "wish you were here".
After the war's end, the dictator of Brazil was removed from power. Meanwhile, the family has seen the birth of their first great-grandchildren.
