Since Ellie doesn't have a lot of substance, I'd pair it with something more classic, like Ellie Catherine. I think it's a cute nickname though. It's one of my favorite nicknames for Elizabeth. It could also be a nickname for any other El- name, like Ellen, Eleanor, Eloise, Elaine, etc., or for ane -elle name, like Danielle, Michelle, Gabrielle, etc.

I would only use it as a nickname, it's far too childish and insubstantial for an adult.

I think Ellie is a very sweet name. The name Elli is a name in it's own right I do believe - Scandinavian. I rather think that the single "i" on the end gives it a little more edge.

I really like the nn Ellie, but I would never use it as a fun name. I like Eleanor and Eloise, Ellie is easily derived from those. Stella can be nn Ellie I suppose too.
