[Opinions] Re: Mila
in reply to a message by Lily8
I really like it, and it has been climbing my list of late. I don't think it will get popular because unlike those names it has a very Slavic flavor and subconciously there is still a pull away from Eastern European tendencies, at least in the US.

Then again...Layla/ Leila is huge here, and I would argue that anti-Islamic feelings are much stronger here than anti-Eastern European sentiments. It (Mila) is already popular and I think it's going to have huge 2008 numbers.

Layla rhymes with Kayla and I think most people don't even know where it comes from, they just want something with the -ayla sound in it.Actually Mila lost places compared to last year.

it may, I did lok at the popularity againI think it could get more popular but I don't see it getting super popular.Where Layla is concerned you have to consider that it did enter english with the song and so it was in the top 1000 in the seventies so it's already been accepted and established. Plus, it fits right in with Kayla, Jayla and all of those.

ButLayla looks and feels a lot like Kayla. It's completely possible that people use it without realizing that it's an Arabic name.
